The video game trailer burnout is getting real, or so my eyes (and brain) are telling me. The Future Games Show is a long showcase at the end of a long day so it could be easy to overlook some games or the presentation as a whole. But let’s not do that! There are loads of narrative-heavy goodies here, and a lot of games already available or launching soon.
Game highlights
Nobody Wants to Die (Critical Hit Games)
Single-player interactive noir narrative Nobody Wants to Die is set in a dystopian New York City, 2329. Death isn’t really a thing anymore. But immortality comes at a price… and someone better pay up. Experience the neo-noir-inspired game through the first-person perspective of a detective. The narrative explores themes of transhumanism and immortality in a time and place where death is nothing but a distant memory.
Nobody Wants to Die will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series later this year.
Farlands (Jandusoft)
An intergalactic farming sim with charming pixel art graphics, Farlands is likely very appealing to fans of titles like Stardew Valley. Chop weeds, build a community, and chart the stars for resources to save your local star system from destruction.
Farlands will be released in Early Access for PC via Steam on July 24.
Parcel Corps (Billy Goat Entertainment, Secret Mode)
Parcel Corps is like Premium Rush in video game form, minus Joseph Gordon-Levitt. (Yeah, it was only a matter of time before he became relevant enough to mention… not gonna lie, I’ve been waiting for this moment.) It is an extreme sports courier simulator. So again, couriers are becoming the heroes we all know they can be!
Parcel Corps will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series on September 3.
The Casting of Frank Stone (Supermassive Games, Behaviour Interactive)
You know, I can’t say I ever thought I’d be writing about Dead by Daylight, yet here we are! At least, kind of: Supermassive Games is developing The Casting of Frank Stone, a single-player horror adventure experience (“experiences” are big this year) set in the iconic world of Dead by Daylight. Create your own story for a young group of filmmakers recording a movie at a murder site steeped in tragedy. Guide them through eerie settings and shocking twists, dodging death at every turn. It all starts with a missing child, but the focus soon shifts to a serial killer.
The Casting of Frank Stone will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series later this year.
