Is it shaping up to be the year of the Bandai Namco-published manga adaptation? Sand Land is set to launch tomorrow and that makes today a good time to announce another manga adaptation, no? That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, often referred to as TenSura, began its public life on a user-generated novel publishing website (2013-2016). Since then, the series has been physically published in Japan and North America. It has a manga adaptation plus five manga spin-offs alongside multiple anime adaptations for television and film. It even had a mobile game adaptation that launched in 2021. But I’m sure you see the glaring media omission on this list: PC and consoles! Bandai Namco annonuced That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime ISEKAI Chronicles today; it will be released this August.
While the source material began as light novels, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime ISEKAI Chronicles is based on the anime and has characters pulled from that. In the game, players follow a leader named Rimuru Tempest and his companions. They are building and developing a nation – the Jura Tempest Federation – from the ground up. The game is a 2D side-scrolling action-RPG that both follows the original story and includes two additional exclusive stories created under the supervision of the original light novel author, Fuse. The original story includes the encounters with the Kijin and the battle against the Kingdom of Falmuth.
The world of Tempest is just waiting the be explored, though heated battles (using combos and techniques from the anime) await. Players will be able to take on sub-quests when they return to town, allowing them to help their companions while strengthening their relationships and fighting skills.
Two types of gameplay mechanics are combined in That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime ISEKAI Chronicles, classic JRPG battles and city-building, creating a unique gameplay experience. Enjoy life as an all-powerful slime: make new allies, take down foes, thrive in the city, and work together with others to make it a bette place.
The two new story arcs are Goblin’s Revenge and Religious Nation. Together, they detail the creation of Tempest. In the Goblin’s Revenge Arc, follow an evil goblin as he sets out to avenge the loss of his friends after discovering his former enemies and the Hobgoblins coexist in Tempest. In the Religious Nation Arc, follow a mysterious religious organization that believes in angels as they attempt to take the power of the Storm Dragon while facing off with Tempest.
Developed by ZOC/Monkeycraft and published by Bandai Namco, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime ISEKAI Chronicles will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series, and Xbox One on August 8 (worldwide).
