Cults and sinning seem to go hand in hand. Sure, some of them claim to follow the bible – but they also tend to make up rules that work for them rather than actually interpret and understand what is obviously in front of them. Cult of the Lamb is freaking adorable, but even adorable woodland animals that part of a mysterious cult sin sometimes. The game’s next free update, Sins of the Flesh, is set to launch next week. It features a blasphemous beneficence of quests, features, improvements, and an evil new resource that rewards those leaders prepared to yield to sin.
For those not in the know about the cute cult classic game (see what I did there?), I’ll quickly fill you in. Cult of the Lamb is an action-roguelike/roguelite sim that has players controlling a possessed lamb who was saved from annihilation from a stranger. The lamb has to repay its debt by building a loyal following in the stranger’s name. It isn’t easy to create your own cult in a land of false prophets, so head to diverse and mysterious regions to build a community of Followers and spread your Word until this is the one true cult.
New progression systems are at the heart of the update, adding more depth and complexity to cult management. Follow the sinful path for your Followers to enjoy gluttonous rituals, vain buildings, and wrathful doctrines. The most loyal Followers can be invited to the inner circle of Disciples, which is basically a revamped Follower progression levelling system.
Cult life is improved in Sins of the Flesh. Shiny poop is introduced; it has special effects like yielding fruitful crops or adding XP to your broom. Make chores faster by levelling up your broom, making it more effective. A new tier for the Janitor Station and the Storage Structures improve automation, allowing your Followers to take care of themselves a bit better than they have been. And let’s not forget the ultimate sin: lust! When two Followers love each other very much, they may find an egg that can be nurtured into offspring that is then cared for until it is ready to pledge allegiance to the cult on its own.
An update wouldn’t be any fun without new goodies to enjoy, and Sins of the Flesh does have that. A new weapon, the Blunderbuss, fires big damage in close quarters once loaded; if you charge it up with a heavy attack, you can snipe enemies from a long range. Your Followers will be styling thanks to the new Tailor building. Once it is unlocked, each cultist can wear their own outfit (there are 23 styles).
Developed by Massive Monster and published by Devolver Digital, Cult of the Lamb is available for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series, and Xbox One. The Sins of the Flesh update will be available for all platforms on January 16.
