Last September (2022), eastasiasoft posted a video showcase that was a Softstar special; in it, the publisher and developer announced four titles coming to consoles. Xuan Yuan Sword 7 (which has already been released for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One as Xuan-Yuan Sword VII) specifically was set to be released for Nintendo Switch in 2023. With only ten days left in the year, eastasiasoft has announced that the action RPG will now be released for Nintendo Switch in “spring” (Northern) 2024. It also announced two physical editions of the game.
It’s fair to say that Nintendo Switch ports don’t always go so well, especially this far into the next generation of consoles. The Nintendo Switch port of Xuan Yuan Sword 7 was led by eastasiasoft in cooperation with Catness Game Studios. The two companies have worked together on ports before, including Sea Horizon and The Bridge Curse: Road to Salvation (both are developed by the same studio behind Xuan Yuan Sword 7, Softstar Entertainment). A press release touts: “the game has undergone months of optimization for the best possible experience, making this one of the most visually impressive games to release late in the life of Nintendo Switch.” But that’s a lot to live up to…
Xuan Yuan Sword 7 will be released both digitally and physically. Physical copies are available through Playasia, with pre-orders beginning on December 22 at 10:00 a.m. ET (December 23 at 2:00 a.m. AEST). Due to the game’s size, graphics, and cinematics, it requires a 16 GB card to contain the entire game on one game card. There will be a standard edition and a limited edition available. The limited edition (trailer below) comes with a copy of the game, a physical manual, the soundtrack on CD, an art book, a numbered collector’s certificate, and a collector’s box.
Set near the end of Western Han rule, Xuan Yuan 7 follows swordsman Taishi Zhao while he fights to protect his family and uncover the truth threatening all of China. Taishi gains control of a fabled artefact, the Elysium Scroll. The story is rooted in Chinese history and mythology, reimagining a fantastical and chaotic realm under a new Xin Dynasty.
Combat is frenetic, with players slashing, blocking, dodging, and riposting in real-time. Use the Elysium Scroll to slow down time, absorb monsters, or alter the environment. Armour and weapons can be upgraded. There are passive skills to learn as well as new techniques.
Developed by Softstar Entertainment and DOMO Studio, and published by eastasiasoft, Xuan Yuan Sword 7 will be released for Nintendo Switch in “spring” (Q2) 2024.
