In Touhou Mystia’s Izakaya, Mystia’s restaurant has been ransacked and she will have to rebuild it to once again be considered the best tavern in Gensokyo. Collect ingredients and recipes during the day. Create the perfect ambience with outfits, decorations, and music. Then, at night, execute the perfect dinner service by cooking up the right foods and being hospitable. The game, set in the Touhou Project universe, is set to launch for Nintendo Switch in early May 2024.
An unruly customer has destroyed Mystia Lorelei’s tavern. Despite her dreams being shattered, she still has bills to pay. Starting with a humble food cart, she will have to rebuild, pay off debts, and grow the business to the success that it once was. Scout locations for the food cart across six familiar locations including the Hakurei Shrine and Human Village. Put the profits back into the business to make it better.
Touhou Mystia’s Izakaya is developed by Dichroic Purpilion, an indie developer from Japan who specialises in Touhou Project-themed games so much that he has the recognition of being Touhou Project Approved. But this game is different than most others in the Touhou universe. Youzi KK, founder of Dichroic Purpilion, says in a press release: “Touhou Mystia’s Izakaya breaks the mold of the usual Touhou game. Instead of combat, players must utilize cooking and customer service to achieve victory.”
There is different gameplay during the day and the evenings. In the daytime, collect recipes, source hand-picked ingredients to cultivate fresh produce, befriend locals, and hire employees to help with day-to-day operations. Keep an eye on the clock though, as the restaurant will always open for hungry customers in the evening. Each visitor has their own preferences, favourites, and budgets. Talk to the guests, fill orders promptly, and interact in a friendly manner. Create massive profits by chaining together satisfied customer service combos, but remain aware that careless management can result in unhappy guests.
While those aforementioned hired workers can manage everyday tasks, players should keep an eye out for rare visits from over 30 hungry Touhou characters. Each requires a personal touch. They’ll hint at what they want, and sometimes off-menu items will need to be prepared.
Developed by Dichroic Purpilion and published by Phoenixx, Touhou Mystia’s Izakaya will be released for Nintendo Switch on May 2, 2024. It is currently available for PC via Steam.
