I spent the final few months of 2015 obsessed with The Legend of Legacy for 3DS. As I noted in my review, I played it every time I had even just a few minutes to spare. The game is often considered to be a spiritual successor to SaGa, though it has very little with the long-running series minus the names of those who worked on the titles. Prior to launch, there was huge hope that The Legend of Legacy would stand equally next to some of the great RPGs, and in my opinion it did. When a remastered version of The Legend of Legacy was announced a couple months ago, I was beyond thrilled. And now I know that I won’t have to wait much longer, as The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered is set to launch in March 2024.
The island of Avalon is shrouded in mystery, despite being discovered a decade ago. The continent is said to have been forged by the gods and elementals, and it is the home to fabled treasures with immense powers. Numerous brave souls have attempted to investigate the lands. Who’s next? The Legend of Legacy follows seven not-quite-heroes as they come to Avalon to fulfill their unique desires. Each has their own motivation, their own set of skills, and their own stories to share. They also each have their own conclusion.
Players manage battle formations and instruct specific combat roles to seize victory in battle. Use the ancient power of the elementals by forging contracts mid-battle to call upon powerful skills.
Here is a new gameplay trailer of The Legend of Legacy HD Remastered:
Developers behind the game include illustrator Tomomi Kobayashi (SaGa series), renowned composer Masashi Hamauzu (Final Fantasy and SaGa series), writer Masato Kato (Chrono Cross), game designer Kyoji Koizumi (SaGa series, The Alliance Alive), and director Masataka Matsuura (The Alliance Alive).
