Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters is a strong entry into the franchise. In his review, Matt writes, “despite the sheer number of Neptunia games that have been released by now, Sisters VS Sisters finds a way to meaningfully contribute to and build on what has come before.” It first launched in the West for PC and PlayStation in January 2023 and now the game is set to launch for Nintendo Switch almost exactly a year later, in January 2024. Xbox versions are also expected to be released sometime in 2024.
The Goddess Candidates, led by Nepgear, have been asleep for two years thanks to the Ashen Goddess. When they awaken, they learn that Gamindustry has been upended by a threat: the Trendi Phenomenom. People have turned to the rPhone as their main method of communicating with the outside world while remaining safely confined to their homes. Oh, and to top it all off, Neptune is missing.
The Nintendo Switch version of the game includes Maho and Anri as playable characters, exclusive to this release. Players will also be able to purchase the Swimsuit DLC, but only in the Digital Deluxe Exclusive version of the game; it is not available for purchase separate from the game.
The Swimsuit DLC will be included with the Xbox versions of Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters, but Maho and Anri will not be playable. However, there is a new Xbox teaser trailer that shows off those swimsuits in addition to a bit of story and gameplay:
Fights happen in real-time (a shame, if you ask me), and players are able to employ combos and chain attacks together. You can have three party members out at a time. Match team members with a partner for stat increases and elemental bonuses; the strong the bond, the better the bonus.
The rPhone plays a part in all of this, as players can use it to connect to the Chirper social network and take on side quests to earn special rewards. Find accessories to customise your party members throughout the game, and afterwards use Photo Mode to show off your style. Two characters from two legendary game developers – Higurashi from Ryukishi07 and Shanghai Alice from ZUN – are available from the start.
Developed by Idea Factory and Compile Heart, and published by Idea Factory International, Neptunia: Sisters VS Sisters will be released physically and digitally for Nintendo Switch on January 23, 2024. It will be released physically and digitally for Xbox Series and Xbox One sometime in 2024. It is currently available for PC via Steam/GOG, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4.
