Cupid Parasite is one of the stronger visual novels launched this decade. In Matt’s review for DDNet, he writes, “Comedy’s always hard to get right, especially when there’s an underlying subversive quality to it, but Cupid Parasite never falters… This is one of Otomate’s finest.” That was two years ago, and now it’s finally time for a sequel to the divine romantic comedy otome game. Cupid Parasite: Sweet and Spicy Darling features a new original story and a new character. It brings players back to Los York as Lynette, Gill, Shelby, Raul, Ryuki, Allan, Peter, and Merenice indulge in the sweet and spicy side of town. The game is set to be released in the West for Nintendo Switch sometime next year.
Cupid is the goddess of love herself, striving to become the top bridal advisor at major marriage agency Cupid Corporation. She was assigned five hopeless clients: the Parasite 5. She guided each of them through mock dates, matchmaking seminars, and a reality show called Parasite House – and then all five suddenly cancelled their memberships!
Cupid Parasite: Sweet and Spicy Darling follows Cupid again, this time as she experiences love firsthand. She will become a goddess “only” for him. Marriage isn’t the end goal, it’s just the beginning of a new chapter. Whether you’re just starting to date or you’re about to get married, a series of unexpected challenges await. Also, a mysterious new creature has appeared in Los York. Is it a divine message, or evidence of an unknown civilisation?
The sequel features the first title’s cast, plus new character Merenice Levin. There are seven sweet and spicy bachelors, three game modes, and over 80 CGs. After Drama mode follows up on the original Parasite 6, picking up where the last game left off. New Parasite mode shows Merenice’s perspective of the events that occur after the common route of Cupid Parasite. Bonus Episode mode contains six bonus episodes, each with their own unlockable CGs.
You’ll have to choose the flavour of your next course. Do you like it sweet? Or maybe a bit more spicy? When prompted, choosing between the two options will impact the ending of the selected route. If you’re able to balance the flavours just right, there’s a chance at something really appetizing.
Developed by Idea Factory and published by Idea Factory International, Cupid Parasite: Sweet and Spicy Darling will be released digitally and physically (there will be a Limited Edition announced at a later date) in the West for Nintendo Switch during 2024. It’s Japanese launch date is today (November 30, 2023).
Cupid Parasite might just be my favourite Otome art of all time and the art of that header is just so freaking good.
