The release date for Fate/Samurai Remnant is approaching quickly (one month away!), and with that comes new information. Matt previewed the game for DDNet earlier this month. Today, a new trailer was released that introduces players to life in the streets of Edo and gives them a glimpse into the deeper aspects of the storyline. The trailer features the game’s main theme, Zanya Gensou feat. LICCA / Spiral Ladder.

In the Fate franchise, pairs of Masters and heroic spirits (known as Servants) have been fighting across history in a series of Holy Grail Wars. The winning duo in each war receives an ancient artifact that grants wishes. Fate/Samurai Remnant continues the Holy Grail War, this time in the Edo Period Japan. Players take on the role of young samurai Miyamoto Iori, whose Servant is Saber. This game’s battle is between seven pairs of Masters and Servants, and is about to begin as the Waxing Moon Ritual unfold in the shadows.

As Iori, players can explore the town of Edo. There are many things to do here, such as wandering the streets with various Servants, shopping at a mysterious store, or visiting famous places. Iori can complete side quests to earn money and materials; he may also be called upon to arbitrate fights. Edo is divided into seven districts, which can be accessed through the world map. Saber will also mark places of interest on the map. Rogue Servants will suggest sub-quests known as Digressions; this allows Iori to bond with Rogue Servants.

Iori will have to prepare to face powerful opponents in the Ritual, with the help of Saber and Rogue Servants. Players can upgrade not only Iori’s skill tree, but also those of Saber and other Rogue Servants. This will unlock various skills and abilities that can be equipped. Iori can also use materials with his sword mounting to strengthen its abilities and replace any skills attached to it. Saber’s Memento Ring will be filled as the bond strengthens between Servant and Master by exploring Edo and story progression. Once a certain level is reached, players can increase their chances of using Link Strikes in battle or unlock new skills in Saber’s tree.

During combat, there are three different gauges: Affinity, Substitution, and Hidden Sword. The Affinity Gauge is required to use the powerful Affinity Technique action and order their Servant to perform a specific attack. It fills up during combat in response to Iori’s attacks, but can also fill up during exploration through various activities (like interacting with Saber’s points of interest). The Substitution Gauge allows players to temporarily and directly control Iori’s accompanying Servant. The Hidden Sword Gauge allows players to unleash Iori’s special technique, which changes depending on the number of swords used in combat.

A special live stream about Fate/Samurai Remnant will be held at Tokyo Game Show 2023. It will air on September 21 at 22:00 JST (that’s 11:00 p.m. AEST, 9:00 a.m. ET) via YouTube. The presentation will feature more information about the game, additional gameplay details, characters currently unseen, and special guests including several voice actors.

Developed by Omega Force and published by Koei Tecmo, Fate/Samurai Remnant will be released for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch on September 28 in Japan and September 29 worldwide.

She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
