It probably seems weird that I’m covering a showcase from Limited Run Games considering the site is DigitallyDownloaded.net, but there’s good reason for it: past physical copies, game preservation is basically non-existent. So what Limited Run Games does, which is primarily publishing indie titles to physical media, is kind of important. Here, I’ll be highlighting several announcements, as well as providing a full list of the games featured and a link to the entire showcase. Not all of these will have physical launches; when one was specified, I mention it.

Game highlights

Castlevania Advance Collection

This collection features four games, including Castlevania: Circle of the Moon, Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, and Castlevania: Dracula X. Pre-orders for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch open on July 28; it will be available digitally for PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series, and Xbox One.

Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution

The character of Shantae was created in 1994. The Game Boy Colour game was developed between 2000 and 2002. The Game Boy Advance game, though, started development in 2002 and it was never completed because the market was too difficult and the technology just wasn’t there yet. All the files were archived… until now. This is basically the missing chapter, and we meet characters in this game that show up later. This game has link cable support and works with a single copy of the game. Shantae Advance: Risky Revolution will be released for Game Boy Advance (no, I’m not kidding).

This Way Madness Lies

This Way Madness Lies just looks funs. It’s basically Shakespeare plus magical girls. Save Shakespeare’s world from the force of Nightmare. The game is described as a fast-paced turn-based JRPG comedy. This Way Madness Lies will be released digitally for Nintendo Switch on July 25; PlayStation 5 and physical release information will come at a later date.

Rose & Camellia Collection

Rose & Camellia games are like Mike Tyson’s Punch Out, but with Jane Austen’s story. Rose and Camellia Collection is a remake of a 2007 flash game. It follows Reiko, who is trying to become the matriarch of the household. To do so, she must win slap battles with other women. This collection includes five games, more than 30 characters, English voicework, HD graphics, and a local versus mode. Players will be able to use either the motion-based Joy-Cons or touch-screen swipes. Rose & Camellia Collection will be released for Nintendo Switch this year.

Clock Tower Port+

This one is something I’m really excited about. Clock Tower is a classic Super Famicom survival horror game, and this is an enhanced version of it. It’s the first time the first game in the terrifying series is being released in the west. Clock Tower traps players in the Barrows family manor, where they’re pursued by a murderous, shears-wielding psychopath known as Scissorman. The gameplay is point-and-click (love it). The main character, teenage orphan Jennifer, doesn’t have any offensive capabilities, so she’ll have to rely on her wits and resourcefulness to come out alive. Clock Tower Port+ will be released for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series, and Xbox One in early 2024.
