The key art for Shadowman: Darque Legacy.

Shadowman may sound familiar to you – it’s a comic that started back in 1992, and has since sold millions of copies and had two video games based off it. Shadow Man was released in 1999, and Shadow Man: 2end Coming was released in 2002; both games feature protagonist Michael LeRoi. Now, Australian developer Blowfish Studios is partnering with Valiant Entertainment (and its parent company, DMG Entertainment) is making a new game, this time returning to original series protagonist Jack Boniface. It’s titled Shadowman: Darque Legacy.

The Boniface family has carried a dark legacy for centuries: the mantle of Shadowman. Shadowman is a walker between worlds, sworn to preserve the veil between life and death. Novice Shadowman Jack Boniface is our protagonist, thrust into the path of a growing evil that threatens everything his family has been fighting for.

The game promises challenging, visceral combat. Players will clash with the fanatical Brethren cultists. These cultists can vary from hammer-wielding brutes to sorcerous necromancers. They are truly wretched creatures that have slithered out of the most desolate depths. Shadowman will have a range of weapons to deliver brutal and bloody attacks.

There are a variety of locations to explore, from the vivid Liveside to the hellish Deadside. Jack will have to shift between realms to solve environmental puzzles. When it comes to character progression, there’s a RPG-lite system that allows Shadowman to acquire new skills.

“It’s been an honour to breathe new life into such an iconic IP, with Shadowman’s first venture into gaming since the PlayStation 2 era,” said Clinton McCleary, Game Director at Blowfish Studios, in a press release. “We’re looking forward to ushering fans into the horrifying, punishing, but rewarding experience we’ve crafted. Stepping into the role of Shadowman, players will encounter a compelling cast of heroes and villains while taking their scythe to the most wretched denizens of the Deadside.”

Developed and published by Blowfish Studios, Shadowman: Darque Legacy will be released for PC via Steam/Epic, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series.

Lindsay picked up an NES controller for the first time at the age of 6 and instantly fell in love. She began reviewing GBA games 20 years ago and quickly branched out from her Nintendo comfort zone. She has has developed a great love of life sims and FMV titles. For her, accessibility is one of the most important parts of any game (but she also really appreciates good UI).
