“Nioh set in China” is such a logical extension for Koei Tecmo’s work with the Soulslike formula. After two successful Nioh titles, it was time to move on and find the next location for these hardcore action games, and Koei Tecmo already has plenty of heritage in building games set in ancient China via the Dynasty Warriors series. Enter Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. There’s a new trailer today and the game continues to look great.
The trailer showcases some of the demonic enemies that you’ll be fighting, as well as some of the historical names that you’ll encounter – including Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Zhao Yun, and Lu Bu. All of this is in “celebration” of the game now being available for pre-order on digital platforms, which makes sense given that it’s out in just a few months. The game releases on March 3 next year, and will be available on Xbox Series, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam.
Unfortunately, the game will be available on Game Pass on the day of launch too, so Koei Tecmo is participating in the extreme commodification of video games, and by extension the undermining of the art form, but hey. As long as people get their content, right?
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty really does look good though. That’s the main thing.
