There are no shortage of Metroidvanias out there, but that doesn’t stop us from getting excited when a good-looking one comes along. Afterimage is a good-looking Metroidvania, in development by Aurogon Shanghai and to be published by Modus Games, and now we have a release date for it.
Set in the ruins of a fantasy world, Afterimage follows the journey of the classically amnesiac protagonist, Renee, as she embarks on an epic quest to rescue her mentor and uncover her lost memories.
Filled with fast-paced combat, diverse character builds, and a gripping storyline, Afterimage offers players the chance to explore a vast, interconnected world filled with over 170 different enemy types to face off against, including 30 unique boss encounters. The game also features “deep RPG mechanics” (at least, according to the press materials), with over 200 different pieces of equipment to collect and choose from, designed to allow for strategic planning down to the most minute details, like item synergies, including six classes of main weapons, sub-weapons, armour, and accessories.
Players will have the ability to use hard-earned talent points to upgrade a variety of character stats, with additional unique weapon skills for each class of weapon, assisting in your personal determination of the fate of the world, presented by the instance of multiple endings, depending on Renee’s own choices.
You’ll be able to play Afterimage on just about everything, when it launches on April 2025, 2023. It will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Xbox One, the Switch, and PC via Steam.
