It’s become a bit of a modern craze to take a vintage video game and remaster and rerelease it, tugging at the nostalgia strings of the hearts of potential gamers, and recapturing the success that these old video games had once had. While we’ve covered a few old visual novels, action adventures, and even other original titles styled around retro-era gaming, and Atari itself has been very active with this. Atari Mania, the new one, might just be the peak.

It’s a whole lot more than a simple repack and porting rerelease for newer platforms. Developed by iLLOGIKA, a small indie development studio in Canada, Atari Mania is best described as its own fully-fledged title and catalogue of the Atari 2600 era. With the release set to later next month, let’s recap on the key features to look forward to.

The catalogue itself is made up of over 150 microgames, combining aspects of gameplay and characters of Atari classics, from Asteroids to Yars’ Revenge, as listed on Atari’s official website. Scattered across the games are classic-inspired easter eggs, collectibles, and world-famous characters I’m sure you’ll at least be somewhat familiar with. On top of all of this, we can expect a modernised, pixelated art style, and a retro-style chiptune soundtrack of course!

If you’re raring to ride this gargantuan wave of retro-gaming micro-experiences, you can expect a release on October 13 on Steam for PC, and the Switch for $US24.99.
