Good news, Dr. Mario fans with smartphones! The classic puzzler is now on your iPhones and Android devices courtesy of Dr. Mario World.
The latest mobile effort by Nintendo is another free-to-play game with in-app purchases, following the likes of Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem on the devices. We’re being promised “hundreds” of stages, as well as appearances from Dr. Peach, Dr. Bowser, and plenty more. We assume the in-app purchases are tied either to countdowns special power-ups, so you can be pretty certain that this one will have a sharp difficulty curve in order to incentivise you to spend more money.
Still, you only need to look at the runaway success of Candy Crush to know that free-to-play and match-3 puzzle action go together pretty well, and Nintendo will no doubt find itself a loyal audience with this one. The game should be available worldwide right now.
