Nothing gives me national pride (Go Canada!) quite like a great indie dev from a nearby city; Thunder Lotus is one of the great ones, and I’m sure you’ve heard of it before —it’s the developer behind Jotun and Sundered. And this week, during Microsoft’s E3 Briefing, we got a quick glance at the next title from Thunder Lotus: Spiritfarer, a cozy management game about dying.
In the game, you play as Stella, the ferry master for the dead. First, build a boat to explore the world. Then she must befriend and care for the spirits until she releases them into the afterlife. Here’s a full trailer:
Boat life isn’t simple, as Stella must farm, mine, fish, harvest, cook, and craft while exploring the seas. If you’d like, add a co-op friend and they’ll play as Daffodil the cat.
That’s not to say it’s all work, though. Stella will also spend quality time with her passengers to create lasting memories and learn how to say goodbye. Essentially, it’s a tear-jerker in development.
Spiritfarer will release next year for (and this is a long list): PC/Mac/Linux, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox Game Pass for PC and console.
