It’s the last day of E3, and I can’t believe it’s taken until now for me to have a breath to spare so we can go back to the Square Enix press conference. Squeezed in after Outriders and before the beast that has become Final Fantasy VII’s Remake, it was easy to forget about it. Not only was there a new trailer shown, but the release date was revealed — making it a very important trailer indeed.

Oninaki follows the story of Kagachi. As a Watcher, it’s his duty to usher Lost Souls into the Beyond. A meeting with mysterious Linne causes his fate to become entwined with blood and death. There are other important characters to meet along the way, such as Lushi and Mayura the experienced Watchers, and the very unfriendly (to say the least) Night Devil from a forgotten time who is actively hunting Linne.
The game is Tokyo RPG Factory’s third title, following I Am Setsuna and Lost Sphear. It promises a unique yet familiar action-RPG experience.
Oninaki will launch for PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 on August 22.
