Dungeon crawlers, take note: those who brought us Demon Gaze are back with Stranger of Sword City, a dRPG which takes a more Western approach to dungeon crawling. It is coming from Experience, courtesy of NIS America.

Stranger of Sword City promises to explore dark fantasy themes while combining new gameplay elements with a leaderboard system. It is about death and the choices that lead to survival. This description of the game from NIS America sends chills down my spine: “You will define yourself by the lives of those you leave behind, by the people you align yourself with, and the experiences you have on each new venture into the dark labyrinths that threaten to trap you.”
In the game, you are the only survivor after your flight is transported through a portal then crashes in an unfamiliar land with equally unfamiliar stars. Stranger of Sword City should shed a lot of the lightness normally found in Experience’s games and focuses on traditional elements, such as perma-death and Life Points. The new Ambush system asks you to confront how much you’re willing to risk for loot. Online leaderboards mean you compete with friends and strangers alike in categories such as best gear or fastest clear time.
Stranger of Sword City is coming to PlayStation Vita with both a physical and digital release. Expect to see it March 22 in North America and March 25 in Europe.
