One of the most exciting announcements from Koei Tecmo recently has been that it is finally localising a Nobunaga’s Ambition game. After a very long wait from the last English Nobunaga’s Ambition, Sphere of Influence is landing on our PlayStation 4s in September, and we can’t wait.
Sphere of Influence is a serious 4X strategy game, where players will need to control the military development and domestic development of their growing empires, on the way to unifying Japan through the Sengoku period.
Fans of Samurai Warriors will recognise the character names of their warlords, but what will be interesting with Nobunaga’s Ambition will be if it can overcome the very long period it’s been where consoles in the west haven’t really had these kinds of games released on them. Strategy games that are released on console are relatively uncommon, and tend to be relatively simple when compared to what this game will offer. Fans of games like Europa Universalis will have a better idea what to expect, but those kinds of games aren’t so popular among console players, and PC fans of that kind of game are less likely to own consoles (at least, anecdotally speaking).
But hopefully people give Nobunaga’s Ambition a go, because there is nothing quite as rewarding as watching a meticulously planned empire grow and dominate its rivals. And the presentation values on this game do look gorgeous, as you can see from the trailer below.
