VooFoo continues on its quest to get Pure Chess on to every gaming platform known to man with a PlayStation 4 version of the game to land on April 15 in the US, or April 16 for Europeans.

Although we had our issues with the recently-released Nintendo Wii U and 3DS versions of the game, it remains a basic fact that this take on the ancient game is one of the finest that money can buy. So now we can look forward to the PlayStation 4 to show us exactly how gorgeous the game of chess can be.

As you’ll see from the trailer, the big new improvements to Pure Chess on the PlayStation 4 are the visual enhancements; better shadows, more detailed pieces, and the best transparency effect that we’ve ever seen from the glass chess pieces.

As with each of the other versions of the game you’ll want the DLC chess sets to fully customise your experience. Unfortunately we’re suspect that the cross-play function that allowed the Wii U version of the game to play against the 3DS and iPad versions won’t apply here. Hopefully that can be remedied in a later patch.

Chess might not be the first think you think of when thinking of killer PlayStation 4 games to get, but if you haven’t given the game a go before, be sure to consider it, since you may well be inspired to become a grand master after playing this.
