It amazes me that the sequel to Conception is getting localised. It did sell well in its homeland, but its a game about having children with anime girls and sending them into dungeons to do battle.
I’m actually not making that up. The goal of the game is to literally breed an army (and how much the girl in question likes the lead character determines how powerful the child is), and then send those very underaged soldiers in to do battle with demons. It’s not just one girl that our hero needs to have babies with, either. It’s a whole bunch of them.
So yes, it’s a concept that I find a little strange that anyone would consider localising for the west, but then Monster Monpiece is also being localised, so perhaps game publishers are in the mood to take a risk at the moment.
It’s worth noting that once you start playing the game it’s actually not nearly as controversial. There’s no sex involved; the lead hero and the girl simply pour their essences together and the children appear. It’s more oddball than erotic, but I suspect this game is going to face some assumptions from people who haven’t played it that it doesn’t deserve.
It’s also from Spike Chunsoft; a developer that typically makes quality games, and is a turn-based JRPG mixed in with the dating game elements… so just like Persona 4, really.
Atlus, the publisher, sent out a press release that describes each of the girls – their personalities and special abilities. I’m going to copy those below, because this is a game I’m looking forward to greatly.
The game itself is set for release in the US in the Spring for the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo 3DS. No announcement of an European release yet… hopefully NISA jumps in on the harem action.
Chloe
Chloe is the older sister of your new friend Chlotz, and only a year older than your character. Her abilities are so exceptional that she works as an instructor at the Academy.
Chloe uses a Remote Turret to perforate her opponents.
Ellie
Ellie is a first-year student who’s very energetic and often cheers on those around her. Though she looks cute and young, she’s very mature and perceptive.
Ellie uses a magical staff called a Summoning Gun to dish out serious magic damage.
Feene
Feene is an earnest, polite third-year student. She is considered one of the strongest Disciples, and has already seen action on the front lines.
Her formidable Gunblade has seen its fair share of battles as well.
Fuuko
Fuuko is the first female student that you’ll meet. She is bright and amicable, and quick to make friends. She sees herself as a very down-to-earth kind of person.
Fuuko uses her Dual Pistols in dungeons with deadly accuracy.
Narika
The vice representative of your class. She is shy and reserved, without much self-confidence, but has a good heart and is very kind to others.
Her Bowgun speaks differently about her – it packs a huge punch to monsters.
Serina
Despite her diminutive size, she is actually a third-year Disciple with incredible power. She has a good heart, but often tries to keep her true feelings hidden.
Her Kick Gun is an incredible hybrid of fashion-forward footwear and death-dealing.
Torri
As a result of being raised in a research facility, Torri is very naïve about the outside world and usually believes anything she’s told.
Torri materialises a powerful gatling gun to obliterate anything in her path.
