I struggle to think of a better time of year to play a new Mario game. Super Mario 3D World is of the usual quality for Mario title, and throws in a genuinely high quality multiplayer mode to suit the family-focused atmosphere of this time of year.
It’s the kind of game that offers something for everyone. Younger or more inexperienced players will delight in the perfect construction of the levels, the sheer variety in experiences and the aesthetic charm of Mario and his enemies.
More experienced players will meanwhile love the healthy challenge and admire at just how impeccable the level design is. This is a rare game that you won’t see often in the future, so be sure to fill your Christmas 2013 memories with it.
