American McGee launches Kickstarter for Alice animated movie

The man behind those two rather spectacular visions of Alice in Wonderland, American McGee, has launched a Kickstarter to produce Alice: Otherlands, a short film taking place in his dark vision for the Lewis Carroll classic character.
(Be sure to check out our exclusive interview with McGee)

Alice: Otherlands is possible because McGee has finally won the rights to produce an Alice film, and the short film is being positioned as something of a proof-of-concept as McGee looks to prove that there’s demand there for a big-screen film later down the track.
After the failure of Tim Burton’s Alice film, we certainly hope this happens. Alice: Madness Returns and its predecessor American McGee’s Alice were both visually spectacular games. The games themselves were at times suspect, but the vision was undeniable. A film would remove the more suspect elements, which woks for us.
McGee is looking to raise $200,000 for Otherlands, and is already 10 per cent on the way after just one day of campaigning. However, it’s worth noting that McGee’s track record with Kickstarter is a little patchy; Akeneiro: Demon’s Hunters was only just funded, and Ozombie, a Wizard of Oz-styled action adventure, was recently cancelled.
We have high hopes for the project, though. If you would like to contribute, click on over to the Kickstarter.
