Love this game
I can't remember if I had asked this before or not: Which of the currently-available Sonic games would you recommend to a complete dunce at the series, Clark?
Modern-wise, Sonic Generations. It's lighthearted and has a nice blend of 2D and 3D gameplay. You'll also get to see a glimpse of the rest of the series without being overwhelmed. My favorite game of 2011, if that helps you any.
2D-wise, Sonic CD or 3 & Knuckles are very cheap and very good.
If you're willing to take a gamble, the middle-aged Adventure 2 is good. I can't guarantee it will click, but if it does, you can sink a ton of time into it. It's also cheaper than the retail-priced Generations.
