Welcome to the second edition of Game Bundles Of The Moment! For those that are new; GBOTM looks at some ongoing game bundles that happen to be running during the week. And onward to the bundles!
The first bundle is Ubisofts Assassin’s Creed Bundle available on Amazon.com. For $19.99 US, the bundle will nab you Assassin’s Creed: Director’s Cut Edition, Assassin’s Creed 2 Deluxe Edition, and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood Deluxe Edition. Be warned, non-US citizens; this appears to be a US only deal, but I am entirely sure that there are ways around Amazon’s policies.
On the subject of Assassin’s Creed; I have no idea what to say. This is one of those big-name series I have been able to avoid, but I have heard the general musings about it and I can report what I have heard. As stealth games, the Assassin’s Creed series focuses a bit too much on action such that the stealth becomes slightly pointless. Assassin’s Creed 2 has a stupid end-game plot-twist and the multiplayer of Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood is really good but the single player is not worth much.
The second bundle is 2K Games’ WTF Bundle, available on Amazon.com once again. This bundle contains some very debatable games, with Duke Nukem Forever, Borderlands, and The Darkness II composing the list. At $19.99 US and the bundle giving you valid Steam keys, this is not an outright bad deal.
The first of these debatable titles is Borderlands. While Borderlands had very solid gameplay, what really took the game down to an average rating is the world and the main quest missions. While the world was filled with ridiculous characters, everything that surrounded them was bland and completely forgettable. The main quest missions did not help much either, as they consisted of killing generic enemies and retrieving artifacts a little too frequently while the side quests were much more varied and interesting. Otherwise, the game was a great grind-fest for those who wanted an role-playing game-esque first-person shooter. The second of the debatable titles is The Darkness II, with the debate only questioning if the game is good rather than average. The Darkness II is a linear first-person shooter with a five-to-eight hour campaign and co-op, but a good majority of reviews stated that the games campaign was one of the more unique in recent memory and that the co-op was very good for the first run-through. As I have not played The Darkness II, I cannot say I have any concrete views on the title. I also have not played the last game in this bundle, Duke Nukem Forever, but I will let the rest of the internet decide whether that is a good purchase or not.
The third and final bundle for this week is 2K Games’ X-COM: Collection (yes, that is a hyphen) once again on Amazon.com. This bundle contains all of the “Classic” X-COM games, which includes X-COM: UFO Defense, X-COM: Interceptor, X-COM: Enforcer, X-COM: Apocalypse, and X-COM: Terror from the Deep. The bundle comes to a very cheap $3.75 US and gives the buyer Steam keys.
Other than hearing that X-COM: UFO Defense is one of the greatest strategy games of all time forever, I cannot say I have head much exposure to the series. As such, I will briefly summarize the Wikipedia descriptions for the for other games. X-COM: Interceptor is a strategy game crossed with a space flight simulator, X-COM Enforcer is a third-person shooter where the player controls a mech, X-COM Apocalypse is similar to UFO Defense but with a real-time battle option, and X-COM: Terror From The Deep is UFO Defense only underwater. Huh. I’ll admit; I did not expect half of those.

Also, keep in mind that the bundles I mentioned last week (besides the Best of British Bundle on Steam) are still ongoing, but the latest Indie Royal bundle only has a little over 22 hours. Loves me some Assassin's Creed! Didn't play Revelations (but I will before III releases). If I didn't have 'em all, I'd be all over that deal.
