Silent Hill HD Collection players have been plagued with a terror of another sort for a while now- frame rate and audio problems. Now Konami has issued a patch for the PS3 version, Xbox players though… uh…
So- first the good news! PS3 players, your game should work like a dream now! …or nightmare as the case may be. The Xbox 360 version though, well, not so much.
Konami had this to say about the situation:
Understanding the issues some users are experiencing, KONAMI issued a title update for Silent Hill HD Collection (PS3), which fixed frame rate issues as well as audio-synching and other reported issues. KONAMI apologizes to any players who are continuing to experience these issues on the XBOX 360 sku.
According to the publishing giant, the Xbox version of the patch has been cancelled due to “technical issues and resources”. How do you take that? I assume the company took a look at the grosses for the game and decided that it just wasn’t worth the funds to explore making a patch compatible with that console’s version of the game.
That’s just my take however, we’ve reached out to a Konami spokesman for further comment.
*Update – and we have our answer. Apparently there’s no patch due to “development resources and timing”. So there you have it.
The possibility is there that Microsoft's certification fees are to blame, as they were with Fez. That's what The Verge thinks, anyway.
it is funny that I first chose a PS3 over the 360 for reliability and can't get the thing to run now. I'm back with MS

It's a real pity Silent Hill HD isn't being patched as well. I don't know if you have the game, but if you don't… don't touch it until it is patched. It's not unplayable as it is (and it's a classic horror game), but it is a technical failure without the patch, sadly 🙁
PS3 owners, though, go pick it up now. 🙂
Hm, I never actually knew there was an HD version of the original until seeing a few posts about the patch being cancelled.
I just have the original Silent Hill for a Playstation download.
Kinda sucks for the X-Box users though, I pity them 😛
