I've wondered this for a while – you're a big fan of Sonic – given how many disappointments have come from SEGA in recent years – what keeps you coming back?
I ask because I've wondered this about myself with Final Fantasy – is it nostalgia for you?
Guess I've just learned to cope with the rushed nature of the series – the disappointments still entertain me. There's a degree of nostalgia involved in that I played the first two games when I was young. They wouldn't have been at the top of my list at the time though (I was more of a Mario person).
I've always thought of Final Fantasy as a more consistently solid series (haven't played them all though). What disappointments did you face with those games?
It's more psychological – there's always a wish for things to go back to the "good old days" when you've been playing a series for years and years.
Certainly FFXIII, XI, and XIV were disappointing – still good (except for XIV, that's a terrible game :() but compared to the simple beauty of the earlier games they're… different.
The last Final Fantasy game I genuinely lost myself in was XII. The other games have been merely "fun"

Good job on this review. As it happens, while it's been years since I played this, I do remember having occasional issues with the level designs, the AI, and one or two boss fights. Going off of memory, you covered the key points on the game nicely.
