A very impressive little FPS hit the iOS App Store today from developer Madfinger. Dead Trigger might be one of the best looking shooters on the platform.

To say that DT’s visuals are ‘console quality’ isn’t all that much of a stretch. I mean, yes it is another zombie game, but wow is it a pretty zombie game.

The gameplay is fairly straightforward stuff (run, shoot), but the storyline is actually pretty cool.

It’s the year 2012 (hey… wait a sec…) and the world is falling apart (uhhh…). The people are turning on their leaders all over the globe (hmmm) and the top dogs are digging out (sounds about right). As they abandon ship, the elites of the Earth release a deadly virus to thin the heard (foreshadowing!), so to speak- with disastrous results (uh-oh). The plague kills tons of people (sure) and mutates many more into (here it comes) flesh eating zombies.

Madfinger has a pretty solid track record with both Shadowgun and Samurai under their belts. The company says they’ve put a lot of work into Dead Trigger, and not just on the graphics-

The team pointed out that they put a lot of time and energy into crafting the game’s enemy AI, too. Unlike some undead-themed games, zombies in Dead Trigger aren’t simply braindead drones shambling about, hoping to take a bite out of players, but they actually react adaptively to the player’s movements, and will do things like climb over obstacles to get to them.

They also say that Dead Trigger will be supported regularly post launch with gameplay tweaks and new content aplenty.

Dead Trigger is available now as a universal app on the iOS App Store for .99 USD An Android edition is coming soon.
