Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is Vita bound

Konami announced today that the HD collected edition of its storied Metal Gear franchise will be making the jump from consoles to Sony’s new portable.

Air dropping onto store shelves and the PSN this Summer, the HD Collection won’t be the same experience that’s out there right now on the Xbox and PS3. For fans of the series, it’s a little good and bad.

The good news is that the game(s) wil feature some control enhancements that’ll take advantage of the unique possibilities that the Vita hardware offers. No word yet on just what that will entail but, considering everything that the system brings to the table it’ll be interesting to find out.

Now for the bad news- there’s no Peace Walker. It does seem like kind of an odd excising considering that PW was originally a PSP title, but that might just be why it isn’t in here. Perhaps since it’s already offered (in its original form) on the PSP area of the PSN Marketplace, Konami didn’t see the need to double up? It might have hindered sales of either the digital MGS3 or the Collection.

There’s also no exact release date or pricing for the set as of yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
