I really, really wonder why no one is bothering to make a "real" Pokemon game for the home consoles.

Pokemon is about connectivity and playing on-the-go, battling kids on playgrounds, etc. I don't think a console version would be apropos. Then again I am drunk.
Regardless, Pokemon Rumble is recommended for Wii owners looking for a downloadable Pokemon game.

You're right that Pokemon is about the social experience, but with the Wii U guaranteed to be far more capable in terms of online, and then perhaps connect back into the 3DS, surely there's good reason to hope for a HD Pokemon 😉

While I'd love to see a full-on HD multiplayer Pokemon game, I find it more likely that Nintendo would go back for another Colosseum/Gale of Darkness style of game. Those two were definitely adventures, but they were also different enough from the main games to warrant a console release instead of a handheld one.
They were good little story-driven single player games, whereas the portable ones are social oriented and have very basic plots.
