If this fortnight’s poll is anything to go by, iPhone and iPad developers still have a way to go in convincing people that the touch-only devices are capable gaming machines.
When we asked our readers “are there any genres that can’t work on iPad/ iPhone?” Here are the following possible answers, as well as percentage of votes that went that way:
FPSers and platformers, especially, need physical buttons: 59%
Only with heavy optimisation: 9%
There is nothing the iPad/ iPhone can’t do! 13%
The iPad can handle anything, the iPhone is limited: 18%
So for the most part, people are still convinced that the more input-intensive genres don’t really work on those devices. Time will tell if that will change.
So that concludes this week’s poll. Let us know your personal thoughts. Make sure you check out our previous polls: #1, #2, and #3, and join in our next poll: “What is a fair price for a good, A-grade, downloadable game?”
And we’ll see you here again in a few weeks!
I fall into the 15-30 dollar range personally. For me, downloadable games are convenient, but they lose some value because you can't loan them to friends or trade/resell them later.

FPS? Really? I have a bunch (NOVA, Modern Combat…) and they play pretty well. Other than the Vita which is still out there on the horizon, I can't actually think of anything I'd rather play a portable shooter on.

I'm with Chalgyr on the $15-30" range. If I own it, and can trade it back in for $10, $20, or $30…sure, charge me $40-60.
I can't do that with a digital copy though, even though now with technology, the digital "copy" can last forever compared to the physical copy.
As for the FPS argument, I think they can work…but buttons/analogue sticks would help. I do think the on-rails shooters would work well with the touch controls though.

Woah, I strongly disagree with the results. I absolutely love playing FPS's on my iPad — in fact that's the only platform I've really enjoyed playing them on. I've sunk an embarrassing number of hours into Modern Combat 2, haha.
