The Game of Thrones franchise is the hotness right now and soon the obligatory licensed milk-the-franchise game is launching. A Game of Thrones: Genesis looks like a generic budget RTS from what we can see from the trailer, which isn’t all that good to honest. It doesn’t really capitalise on the franchise at all but the developer, Cyanide Studio, promises an experience that is true to the A Song of Ice and Fire world, so we’ll give it the benefit of the doubt for now.
You control one of the great houses and aspire to gain control of the Iron Throne. To achieve that goal you have a wealth of options such as war, envoys and spies to influence other houses, marrying your allies to other houses to gain more allies and more. If the game delivers on its promises it makes for an interesting twist on the strategy genre and could make for an interesting experience. George R.R Martin’s universe is an extremely rich world full of interesting lore and history that could make a fantastic setting for a game if handled right. If they stay true to that world it’ll be full of secret plotting, oath-breaking and keeping, bastardry, and incest, oh and there is actually a bastard unit which you have to keep hidden from your foes if you want to keep a respectable reputation.
A Game of Thrones: Genesis will be available on September 29 complete with your very own bastard.
