Remember this rumour we speculated on a while back? Well, turns out we were right. PopCap has indeed been acquired by EA for no less than $750 million. That’s no chump change, even for EA which is one of the largest publishers in the videogame industry.
PopCap is among the strongest developer/ publishers in the digital space, especially with casual audiences, and alongside the acquisition of Playfish a while back EA is has come a long way to establish a strong casual business strategy. In a release, Electronic Arts CEO, John Riccitiello, said “EA and PopCap are a compelling combination. PopCap’s great studio talent and powerful IP add to EA’s momentum and accelerate our drive towards a $1 billion digital business. EA’s global studio and publishing network will help PopCap rapidly expand their business to more digital devices, more countries, and more channels.”
The question is, will EA now make the PC version of PopCap games exclusive to Origin?
