Alien Breed: Descent does nothing new. It’s a direct sequel to the two previous Alien Breed games, with the same gameplay, the same visuals, the same settings, the same gameplay modes and the same flaws. Given that between the three of them, Team 17 is asking people to pay the same prices as a retail package, you’re going to want to be a huge fan to buy into the game again.
Here we go again… |
The game makes seriously good use of the Unreal 3 engine |
You’ve seen all this before |
It’s hard to hate this game, but it would have been nice to see something different this time around |
This is really a case of a single game that the developer broke into three parts to maximize revenue. Those sorts of tactics can be a necessary evil for smaller publishers and studios.
Currently, parts one and two are $7 on PSN and the third is $10. I imagine in the near future a bundle will be made of all three with an even bigger discount, probably around $19.99. I would even guess PS+ subscribers would get the bundle for even less.
I haven't bought one yet, but I have really liked the demos, and as mentioned in this review, if this is the type of game play you like, the type of setting and enemies you enjoy, then Alien Breed is for you.

Hi anonymous, thanks for the comment!
I agree that It was a smart move by Team17 to split this game into three chunks to maximize revenue. Playing through all three, I just find it unfortunate that, as a complete package, there's not quite enough variety to really be worth a complete package.
I'd very much like to see a direct sequel that does bring some fresh innovations to the formula, though! This franchise doesn't need to finish just yet 🙂
